THE WONDER OF YOU

You are a wondrous and magnificent being.
You are a glimmer of Source Itself.

Source rediscovering and expanding itself,
like a seed discovers itself
as it lives and grows.

How marvelous to explore
the wonder of YOU!

Can you loosen your perspective
on what you call “reality”?

Can you create a crack in all that you
believe to be real?
And be open to seeing and experiencing
yourself and your life
from a fresh perspective?

You are truly unknowable.
We are all truly unknowable beings,
far greater than we realize.

We are infinitely vast, living miracles
of embodied Source Energy Love.

Take a few deep breaths
and settle into the wonder of not needing to know,
or remember, or understand anything.

You can meet the wonder of you
in every moment.

Keep being aware of your breathing
and feeling your body.

Every moment comes to us wide open,
empty, immaculate, and miraculous.

Yet we have spent our lives trying so hard
to define ourselves, to categorize, compare,
separate and squeeze ourselves
into carefully chosen,
tight, little boxes.

And then we proudly
paste labels on ourselves,
and everyone else.

Consider the ways in which you
may have defined yourself:
by the country you’re from, your nationality,
your family, your religion, your spiritual path,
your gender, your food choices, your skin color,
your economic status, your education,
your past, your traumas, your job or occupation,
your achievements, your body size or shape,
your health status,
your sports and political affiliations
or lack thereof,
and so on.

These things cannot define us,
they are just part of our humanity.

Take another few long, slow breaths,
and meet these parts of yourself,
feel these parts of yourself, with wonder,
curiosity, and a few drops of compassion.
We have all tried so hard to find a way
to fit in here.

Just for this moment, are you willing to release
the definitions you’ve given yourself?
And everyone else?
Are you willing
to un-define yourself?

Your willingness is your power.

Take another few deep breaths
and as you exhale, soften yourself.

Set yourself free,
like a baby chick pecking through the shell
of the egg too tight now to confine it
any longer.

Open your wings!
Maybe you didn’t realize you had these wings!

Take another deep, focused breath, and
breathe this freedom all the way into your bones
and into your heart.

Feel into your original self,
before any definitions were placed on you.

Can you feel the freedom?

Keep quietly breathing.

Notice the silence under everything,
and the peace out of which wonder arises.

No need to know or understand
anything here.

It’s really so simple to let each moment
be exactly as it is: open, innocent
and vibrant with spaciousness,
and with no need for it to be
any different than it is.
Just like you.

The magnificent wonder of you.

THE WONDER OF RENEWAL

I walked through a forest that had burned.
Blackened trunks, ash underfoot – what I would have once called ruined.

I expected silence in something so desiccated.

But it wasn’t silent.
Birds moved through the branches, their songs threading through the stillness.
Small animals carved out homes in what I might have dismissed as debris.
Life continued, without apprehension.

The ground felt soft and yielding under my feet,
like it was in a kind of winter –
hibernating, gathering strength, preparing something I couldn’t yet see beneath the scorched earth.

There was a moment when my understanding didn’t match what was in front of me.
Something stirred in me, quiet, almost questioning.
And instead of trying to resolve it,
I let myself stay there in that not-knowing.

And that felt like wonder.
Not something bright or obvious,
but like the gentle give of the ground under me,
holding something unseen, still becoming.

The forest had burned, and yet it was alive.
Green would return, and the burn would return again, too.

Somewhere in that sequence – of change, growth, resilience – I understood:
the cycle would continue, larger than me, yet part of me too.
And in that, I felt wonder: in the unfolding of life happening where I cannot see,
endlessly renewing itself beyond my understanding.

What a wonder it is to not know.

THE WONDER OF A ROSE

“Look Mum, Look!” my youngest daughter calls,
her voice filled with compelling and irresistible excitement.
I take my hands out of the soapy dishwater and follow her out of the kitchen,
onto the verandah to a small rose bush in a pot.

“Look Mum, a rose! Look how beautiful it is!
You’ve got to smell it Mumma, it smells soooo good!”

It’s just a simple pink rose in an old pot,
but when I stop to notice it,
when I see it through my daughter’s bright eyes,
I see petals soft as silk unfolding gloriously
from the centre stamen of the rose,
I see a luxurious expression of beauty and delight.
I bend down and smell it, and it does smell so good,
a delicate lingering aroma that lights up my senses.
“Mmmmmm” I inhale blissfully, and the dishes, my work,
my to-do lists and forward planning of all kinds
dissipate for an eternal moment.

Every day my children invite me to share
in their experience of wonder.

Sometimes it’s a rose, sometimes it’s a feather,
sometimes it’s the moon hanging luminous in an evening sky,
or a cloud that looks like a dragon, or a caterpillar,
a discarded cicada shell, a tiny fish, a heart shaped rock…
but always, this sense of wonder that infuses life
with an iridescent glow of magic.

In this world, this human world,
it’s easy as adults to feel too overwhelmed,
too busy, too stressed, or even too depressed to stop
and notice the small magics of life.

But what if a childlike sense of wonder
is exactly the medicine we need?
What if, when we get to the end of our lives,
we wish we’d stopped to notice and celebrate the roses,
all the roses, both literal and metaphorical, of our lives?

So when the human world, with all its worries
and dramas and tragedies and uncertainties
gets me down, I remember what the poet
William Blake wrote in 1802:

“To see the world in a grain of sand
Heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.”

And I take my child’s hand and accept
her invitation to be in this joyful state of wonder.
I let her lead me to whatever new miracle
she has found today.

So whether you have a child beside you,
or even the memory of the child you once were,
I wish you moments of wonder,
moments where time pauses,
moments where the ordinary becomes luminous,
where you remember to stop….
and smell the roses!

MOTHER EARTH AND THE EQUINOX

Everywhere on this beautiful planet
~ our Mother Earth ~
we all experience the same balance
of day and night on the equinox.

The equinox is the only time this happens,
and it only happens twice a year.

For a few days around the equinox,
we will all experience this equal balance
of daylight and nighttime
as one global humanity.

And it’s a time to feel more deeply
into our connection
with Mother Earth.

For each one of us, our very life depends
on Mother Earth.

The food we eat,
the water we drink,
the air we breathe,
what we build our homes with,
what we make our clothes out of,
and the fire we use in countless ways
to power our lives.

Each and every one of us was born naked,
without anything at all.

Take some time to honor Mother Earth today.

Consider for a moment:
Where does your food really come from?
Where does the water you drink really come from?

Can you live without breathing air?

Right now is an opportunity
to humbly give thanks
for what truly supports us in being alive:
the earth we walk and live upon.

Mother Earth,
we walk upon you,
surrounded by your beauty and your majesty.

All the food we eat grows from your soil.
It is your waters that flow
and bring life to our bodies
and fertilize the seeds
that grow in your soil.

Your overflowing abundance
feeds every creature that lives here
on this planet.

We are blessed by your beauty.
We are soothed in your forests.
We are nourished by your abundance.
We bathe in your water.
We breathe the air that flows
in your bright blue skies
and through the dark starry nights.

Flowing over your magnificent oceans,
through the deserts of sparkling sand,
over towering mountains,
and through valleys and meadows,
filled sometimes with flowers and sometimes with snow.

This air,
this wind,
this breeze.

How honored we are
to breathe this glorious life-giving air
flowing through your skies.

And how stunning and glorious you are
in your intimate dance with the sun.

How magnificent to behold
the way sunlight sparkles upon you,
upon your waters, on snow and on ice,
and on your bright green leaves.

How can there be so many glorious shades of green?

How can water take so many different wondrous forms?

And where does your gift of fire come from?
Fire bursts forth out of nothing.
It has no substance.

And it is incredibly,
intensely powerful.

Mother Earth,
how can you turn so precisely, so constantly, so evenly,
year after year, for millions of years,
as you so gently offer
all parts of your surface
to be bathed and blessed
in the glorious light of the sun.

Beloved Mother Earth,
forgive us for taking you for granted.
Forgive us for being so distracted,
misguided,
and elsewhere-obsessed.

Forgive us for abusing you,
misusing you,
and destroying so much
of you.

It is our loss.

Mother Earth, I am so grateful
to have the opportunity
to honor you, most beautiful Mother.

Your beauty fills my heart to overflowing.
Your soil grounds my body.
Your air fills me with peace
and enhances my life as I breathe.

Your water brings life
and beauty and happiness to me
in each and every part of my body,
my heart,
and the whole of my being
in countless, infinite ways.

Your fire is a miracle manifesting out of emptiness.
What would our lives be without fire?

As I sit quietly with you, Mother Earth,
I feel you in my body.
I feel you in every way
I am capable of feeling,
in the whole of my being.

And as I feel the presence of you,
I sit in wonder and awe.

Have you also given me this capacity to feel?

I ask and I pray,
and I envision for all of us:

May we walk upon this glorious planet,
who we have named Mother Earth,
with love,
honor,
and respect.

May we each find within us
the recognition and acknowledgement
of all that we have received and continue to receive
from our very own Mother Earth.

May we graciously receive her abundant blessings
with respect, appreciation, and humility.

And may we consciously care for her well-being.

The well-being of our beloved Mother Earth.

Take some time to honor Mother Earth today.

With love and gratitude
for our most beautiful Mother Earth.

A FELT SENSE OF WONDER

Wonder is perhaps the most powerful tool we have
for healing ourselves and our world.

It seems contradictory to think of wonder
as a tool.

Wonder is its own reward.

When you look upon something with wonder,
it becomes wonderful.

In my experience,
wonder turns any experience
into an infinitely mysterious, fathomless object
full of truth and beauty.

That’s exactly why it’s such a useful tool
for meeting yourself.

When we gaze upon something with wonder,
we’re not trying to change that thing.
We’re trying to perceive it.
We’re feeling how it touches us.

This is exactly the way to turn
any psychological wound into a portal
to truth and beauty.

I’m not talking about the kind of wonder where you go,
“I wonder why this is like that,”
and then seek an intellectual answer.

I’m talking about a felt sense of wonder
that comes from just being open
to what you concurrently feel.

I remember a book from my youth called,
Nothing Ever Happens on My Block.
It’s an illustrated book, and all the pictures show
all this wild stuff going down on the block,
but the text says how boring it is there.

That’s sort of like life.

I think most of our brain power
is spent screening out all the stuff
that’s coming at us from our environment.

Wonder opens the screen a tiny bit
and lets a little more light flow in.

Rather than reading my infinite wisdom on the subject,
close your eyes and feel your body.

Now apply a little wonder
through what you are feeling.

Stay with it for five minutes.
See what you notice.

THE WONDER OF WONDER

When I feel wonder I am elevated
without leaving the ground.

Feeling wonder returns me to reverence.
In reverence, I become porous.
In porosity, I become receptive.
In receptivity, I am changed.

When I live in wonder, the ordinary becomes luminous –
in a child’s question,
in a stranger’s kindness,
in the geometry of a snowflake,
in a bird singing,
in the simple act of walking my dog,
in the steady rhythm of my heartbeat.
For nothing is too small to carry the feeling and essence of wonder.

Wonder is the realization that my life is not mundane,
but a miracle to witness and experience.

When I allow myself to feel it fully,
wonder rearranges my interior landscape.
Resentments loosen.
Urgency softens.
Comparisons and judgements fade into quiet gratitude.
Priorities change.
Presence is in full bloom.

Wonder is not my escape from the world.
It is my deeper entry into it.

It asks me to look longer.
To listen more carefully.
To let beauty interrupt me.
To allow the mystery to remain mysterious
while I revel in it anyway.

In the end,
the wonder of wonder
is that it returns me to myself –
to the vast, profound awareness
that I am alive inside something immeasurable
and this alone is astonishing.

Let wonder lift me.
Let it steady me.
Let it remind me
that beneath habit and hurry
there is a vast, luminous field
waiting to surprise me again and again.

Step into it.
Stand in it.
Feel it.
Be remade by it.

For when I choose wonder,
I choose reverence.
I choose expansion.
I choose life.

THE WONDER OF BEING ALIVE

You are alive.

Take a moment to slow down
and be more consciously aware of this simple
and very profound statement:
You are alive.

Take a few deep focused breaths,
expand your chest as you inhale,
and relax as you exhale.

Expand your chest as you inhale,
and relax as you exhale.

Each and every breath is a gift
of being alive.

Pause and consider,
“What does being alive mean to you?”

Feel your body,
with curiosity and kindness to yourself.
Your body is alive.

Feel your body breathing,
and notice how it feels to be
in your body right now.

What does it feel like to bring wonder
to being alive?

Bring a big smile to your face, how do you that?
Just with a thought? An intention?
An internal decision?

There is so much wonder even in the
simple act of smiling.

Comfortably move your body,
maybe stand up and stretch.

Feel the wonder of being able
to move and feel your body.

Keep consciously breathing,
and bring a sense of wonder, as you experience
each deep breath.

The next breath is not for granted.
And the moment when our breathing stops
will also be right now.

You can begin to question things you may have
taken for granted.

To wonder, for instance –

That your living body functions
all by itself – it is living self-organizing intelligence,
running every system in your entire body.

To think, feel and create.
To speak, share, and communicate.

Bring wonder perhaps,
to the comfort of a hug, the miracle of laughter,
the release in having a good cry.

The experience of beauty.

And your ever-evolving capacity
to love and be loved.

Explore the infinite ways
in which you can bring wonder
to being alive.

And discover the vistas of expanding consciousness
as wonder takes you on a magical journey.

Be open to feeling the ecstasy of being alive
in ways you have never even dreamed of.

The wonder of being alive.

Curiosity

Curiosity is our natural ability to look at things with fresh eyes. As we put aside opinions, concepts, projections, and expectations: we become available to experience this moment with the wonder and innocence of a child.

Being curious brings us into a natural, open, and vast space to explore: “What is this?” “What am I experiencing?” “What am I feeling?”

4. Bring more awareness to what you are feeling. Focus on your felt experience and the qualities of the Inner Resource as you embody it. Resist the habit to analyze. Simply feel your body and emotions.

5. Be open to your current experience, whatever it is, without judgment. Just ride the wave of the experience.

6. Remember that the quality of your attention and what you are feeling are more important than the content. Notice how your attention changes, waxing and waning, growing stronger, and sometimes getting distracted. No worries, simply bring your awareness back to the moment, take a deep breath, and focus on the Inner Resource.

7. Become familiar with the feelings and sensations of the Inner Resource you have chosen. Feel what is showing up in your physical body and your emotional body. Be curious to discover how this Inner Resource will support you in your life, to be who you really want to be, and feel how you really want to feel. It is through feeling the Inner Resource that you activate the frequency of it.

Take 5 Deep Breaths

1. Feel your body.

2. Relax your shoulders.

3. Choose a word that makes you feel peaceful, such as om, peace, or love.

4. Inhale slowly while mentally saying the word you chose. Pause before starting the exhalation.

5. Exhale slowly while mentally saying 1 with the first breath. Exhale saying 2 with the second breath, up to 5 or more.

Feel Your Body

Relax your body, and just be aware of how your body feels. Be curious about what is happening in your body. Without changing anything, just notice what you are feeling. Notice where you are feeling things in your body. Make yourself more comfortable if you’d like. Take a deep breath, and feel the sensation of aliveness and the energy of your body.
