Most of us have let a lie slip to others at some point, but daily we tell innumerable lies to ourselves, often without even realising it. We are masters at knowing how to lie to ourselves. But, we pay a heavy price for this self-deception.
While we lie to avoid pain, or feel better about ourselves and our problems, to keep a relationship happy, lying to ourselves is a major obstacle to self knowledge and it hugely damages our chances of happiness. Understanding exactly how we pull the wool over our eyes can help us to create new habits of greater authenticity with ourselves.
