How Art Evolves Consciousness
Contemplating Art alters your Brain Chemistry

Most people could say they’ve experienced being inspired by a piece of art. But, did you know that art can actually change your brain?

Science now shows through brain imaging, how contemplating and observing beauty stimulates pleasure centres in the brain. It also increases blood flow in the medial orbitofrontal cortex which can lead to elevated states of consciousness and better emotional health.  Art fosters integration of emotional, cognitive, and sensory processes in the brain.

Visionary artist Alex Grey began his career as a medical illustrator at Harvard Medical School, but is best known for his powerful paintings that present the human physical and subtle anatomy in terms of cosmic, biological and technological evolution. His work is widely known and has been featured in Time and Newsweek, and on the Discovery Channel.

He shares his creative process and journey with inspiration here.
