Don’t Find a Job, Find a Mission

Don’t Find a Job, Find a Mission
The ideal job is no more realistic than the dream partner, but this professional opera singer/radio journalist says there is a way to find one you love.

It is possible to have an inspired role, doing something we really love, but often we don’t know what we enjoy until we find it.

Celeste Headlee, professional opera singer and host of NPR’s “On Second Thought”, says finding a career which will truly inspire you is much like dating – it takes time and lots of experiments. And the ideal job is no more realistic than the dream man or woman. She uses her voice to touch and inform people, and does this both by singing and as a talk show host.

When you focus on what you do well, and what other people say you do well, somewhere in there, you’ll find your mission. Then, once you have a mission, you discover the why and the specifics of what you love doing.
